This is a car-camping plan, in which do not plan to spend a night out at altitude..

This is the Kakepuku cycle-hike. 45 km by bicycle from Claudelands to somewhere in the south Waikato, a climb up a small volcanic cone, and then the return trip back the same way we came. In all, 90 km of cycling.

A night in a hut at 900 m in the Waikato is a repeat of one of my first tramping operations nearly 2- years ago.

Winter on Pirongia affords views of the big volcanos Ruapehu and Taranaki. The new hut there is almost finished.

It's like tramping, but on my favourite bicycle. The Pureora Timber Trail is one of New Zealand's new national cycle trails. This one through rugged valleys, towering trees and arching swingbridges in the Central North Island.
